III. RUNNING THE GAME

System Requirements:

Windows 95 or 98 based PC
Pentium or better processor
16 MB of RAM (or more)
CD-ROM drive
SoundBlaster PRO or

(MIDI interface recommended)

GAME INSTALLATION

Insert the May Club game CD in your computer. Click "Setup" on the CD ROM to run the Installation program. (The manual states that Autorun will come up, but this was changed after it was printed.)

Select the May Club icon from the START menu to begin the game, or if you like, make a shortcut on the desktop to the May Club program. After the game boots, the main menu (see above) will be presented. Here the user can start a new game, continue a saved game (there are four game save positions), select various game options, or quit the game.

At the options screen, you can re-view game graphics (review a particular game ending, after you've finished that ending), listen to the game music, check how many endings (out of the ten possible game endings) you've cleared so far, and alter your screen mode between mode 1 (allowing you to see your computer desktop) and mode 2 (full-screen mode). The default is mode 2.

GAME PLAY

In the year 2023, the "final" communication method became reality with the creation of the May Club VR system, a virtual world in which ever aspect of reality is recreated by computer control. You are Hajime Kudo, enjoying your last six weeks before you start your career as a "salaryman." You have from February 16 to March 31 to enjoy the May Club simulator, and find your destiny, if you can...

The screen above is what you'll see during game play. On the left edge of the screen is the current date and day of the week. Below that is the time-of-day indicator -- time is divided into three sections, morning, afternoon and evening. On the right edge of the screen is the card indicator, showing you how many more times you may access the May Club simulator.

When you're at home in your room (the only other area accessible in the game outside of the May Club simulator), you have the option of sleeping (which advances you 1/3 a day) or going to the May Club office. In order to advance time (if, say, you have a date with Satomi on Sunday afternoon), use the "sleep" option frequently.

In May Club, the story unfolds by selecting various commands from the command area. You can select between different on-screen commands by using the mouse, the arrow keys, or the numeric keypad. Pressing the left mouse button, the space bar, or the return key (the "execute" keys) selects the highlighted option. Pressing the right mouse button, the escape key, or the zero key on the keypad (the "cancel" buttons) cancels the current action.

Note: Pressing the caps lock key makes messages scroll by at maximum speed. Also, you can move through the game quickly by holding the control key. Be careful, however, as you will not be able to read the text flowing by.

System Menu

You can only access the system menu when you're at home in your room. When in your room, pressing the right mouse button will call up a menu with the following options:

Save

Save your game in one of four different locations.

Load

Resume one of your saved games.

Return to Menu

Return to the main menu. Note that this ends the current game in progress!

Exit Game

Quit the game and return to Windows.

ADVICE ON PLAYING

May Club is a fully interactive game, with many more game options and a much more challenging series of potential game endings than some products that are available. Taking notes on which girls appear at what times is very helpful. In many cases, the girls will tell you when you're likely to find them in May Field. Make sure you don't miss the appointments you make!

A hints file is available from us for people having trouble with the game. To request the hints file, please email help@milkyhouse.com or fax us directly at (619) 839-3745. Proof of purchase will be required for the hints file (the serial number is printed on the inside of the game manual).

IF YOU HAVE PROBLEMS:

We have tested this game thoroughly and verified that it works without problems on U.S. PCs with Windows 95 & 98 and all major hardware products. Still, there are many vendors of software and hardware, so it is conceivable that problems might occur. If you have a problem with this product, please check all connections and verify that your operating system software is correctly installed.

Milky House warrants to the purchaser, for a period of ninety (90) days from the time of purchase, that this computer software program will perform as described in this readme file and the printed instructions.

V: CHARACTER INTRODUCTION

Hajime Kudo (Age 22)

You, the main character in this game. You have graduated from Jiyugaoka University, and will start working at CAT Trading in a few weeks. A sensitive man, you nevertheless yearn to find yourself -- and true love, as well.

Akiho (Age 21)

Akiho works in an office, and she truly has a passion for work. She visits the V.R. world of May Field frequently for the purpose of "man-watching." An excitable woman, her personality is apt to change when she gets worked up.
